By the author of "Water for Elephants", "Ape House" is about Dr. Isabel Duncan, who works with a group of intelligent apes, teaching them sign language and other "human" characteristics. One night the facility where the apes live is bombed, injuring Isabel and allowing the apes to be crated up and stolen. Weeks of trying to find her apes leaves Isabel empty handed, until she see the new reality TV show "Ape House". Captured on camera, the apes are given free reign in a house, ordering greasy take-out food, having copious amounts of sex and telling Isabel through sign language to come and get them. With the help of reporter John Thigpen, Isabel tries to get her apes out of this horrifying situation and back to a secure location.
A pretty good book, although my mind was wandering at the end, but maybe I was just feeling distracted at the time.
