I really enjoyed this book, however I thought the romantic relationship part of it was weak. Mature people who love each other don't act like that. (I am finding this to be the case in almost any book I pick up these days - the relationships aren't real enough, although I suppose they almost have to be like that in order to get the plot points moving.) Anyway, the author needed a reason to get her character back to Alabama, and she choose the man device.
Narrative switches between present day and telling of the high school days when everything went wrong. Skillfully written, and just when you think you've got everything figured out, a twist!!
