I read this years ago, and recently re-read because Mike just read it and mentioned it to me! Also, this is Hillary's favorite book, which is why Michael read it in the first place.
It's a long one, but a good story. Follows 4 main characters in Mumbai, India in the late 70's. They all come from wildly different backgrounds, are brought together by economic forces and form a familial bond.

Just finished...loved it. Couldn't believe the ending!!! Very sad. I had no idea these things happened in 1970s India.
