"Laura Lamont's Life in Pictures" by Emma Straub

I read this one a while ago and forgot to post. I do remember I liked it, though!

Elsa grows up in Wisconsin, where her parents own and operate a playhouse. Actors come from across the country to perform in summer plays. She gets married to Gordon and they move to California, looking for stardom. She is soon discovered by Irving Greene, the great love of her life. He puts her in the movies and she becomes a legend. The book spans several decades of love and life in old school Hollywood.
