"Ten Thousand Sorrows" by Elizabeth Kim

"The extraordinary journey of a Korean war orphan" (as described on Amazon). Elizabeth Kim is the product of an illicit union between an American man and a Korean woman. As a mixed race child she is the object of contempt and disgust in rural Korea. As predicted, she rises above. Changes her life. Writes a book.

loved it. great suggestion. I think memoirs are one of my favorite genres. Some of them you just can't believe it's a true storey.
