One of the best books I've read in a while. Sarah is only 10 years old when she and her parents are arrested in the middle of the night in Paris, in 1942. She locks her younger brother in a secret cupboard, promising to return to him soon. Little did she know she would never return to their apartment - her parents are shipped to Auschwitz and killed in the gas chambers.
Decades later, Julia is doing research for an article she is writing. She uncovers the truth about Sarah, and her strange connection to Julia's family.
Fabulous read. Highly recommended.
